Nimble Task reads and writes plain-text files using the
widely used
TaskPaper
format. You structure your file with Areas (prefixed with
*), Projects (lines ending with
:), Tasks (prefixed with -), and
Notes (plain lines). Tags use the
@tagname syntax. The file is yours — you can
open it in any text editor.
Nimble Task adds two things to the standard TaskPaper format: Areas, which let you optionally group projects into higher-level domains, and a different note behavior — notes belong to their enclosing project, not to the task above them. This makes it easy to jot down thoughts while reviewing a project.
Your tasks live in a local text file that you create and choose where to save. Nimble Task does not use any cloud service or external server. You can create separate files for different areas of your life — one for work, one for home, one for a side project — and open them one at a time.
Since your tasks are just a plain-text file, you can place it in a folder synced by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or any other file-syncing service to access it from another Mac.
Add tags anywhere in your text using the
@tagname syntax (e.g. @urgent,
@waiting). Tags are detected automatically and
appear as clickable pill buttons above the editor. Click a
tag to filter — click additional tags to narrow the results
further. You can also search by keyword with ⌘F.
When a filter is active (tag or search), the view is read-only — you can browse but not edit. Press Escape or click the × button to clear all filters and return to editing.
Yes. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no ads. Nimble Task is completely free.
